Questions

Questions

When do these studies start?

The start is ongoing. You’ll receive an admission decision with payment information. As soon as you’ve paid the first invoice, you’ll have access to all the study materials online. You’ll receive them within a few days, and then you can get started!

Can I answer the assignments and exams in English?

Yes, you can.

What salary can one expect after completing the training?

It depends a bit on where you get a job, but it can be compared to that of a nursing assistant.

What is the cost of additional courses?

There is no extra cost.

How much practical experience is included in this training?

There are 40 days of practical experience.

Can one receive support from the local municipality for this training?

Yes, some municipalities provide grants for those who want to change jobs and need to train for something else. You should find out about the specific requirements in your municipality.

Hello! I’ve been working as a nursing assistant for 28 years, so I have experience in caregiving and wound care. I’m wondering if I’ll be studying everything related to that or if animal care is completely different?

You will surely benefit from your experience, but it will be a bit different when all communication has to go through the owner since the patient cannot speak for itself, and you must involve the owner in decisions. Additionally, you need to understand the anatomy and physiology of different species and breeds, which also have different predispositions to various types of problems. It’s also even more important to be able to read the patient’s state of mind in animals than in humans.

How does it work if one is working and wants to study remotely?

This training is designed so that you can work or study something else alongside it. Studies are conducted in the evenings and weekends or whenever you have free time. This means you can take up to three years to complete it if you can’t finish it in one year.

I have a 3-year high school education (esthetic) and post-secondary education in tourism and massage, but no education in animal care and nature. Can I still apply for your distance education?

You are eligible since you have completed high school. The admission requirements are either completion of high school or relevant work experience.

Do I have to pay everything at once?

We can provide you with an installment plan with monthly payments. We don’t charge interest, so the total cost remains the same as when paying everything at once.

How are exams conducted?

Exams are taken from home. We have several opportunities per year for completing exams. You’ll receive the exam online and have a weekend to complete it.

Is all teaching conducted online?

For level 2 animal caretakers, there is one gathering during a day. This is to conduct D9. The gathering takes place over a weekend each year in Gothenburg, and the student books the day that suits them best. Apart from that, everything is online 🙂

Can I split the internship?

Yes, you can! It can be a valuable experience to be in two different clinics to see how they operate. Many students also choose to do the internship when they have vacation/leave from their job.

Do I need to buy any course literature?

No, everything you need for the training is available in the online school. Veterinarians can recommend useful literature, but it’s not mandatory.

Is it possible to ask questions during the studies?

Yes! We have plenty of live lectures via Teams with knowledgeable veterinarians and industry professionals. There are also scheduled meetings specifically for questions.

Will I miss out on community and the chance to make new friends when studying online?

Absolutely not! We have a community that all students are invited to join. There, you can get to know your fellow students with similar interests.

Do you determine your study pace entirely on your own, or is it 1 or 2 years set? Can I do it in, for example, 1.5 years?

You determine the study pace yourself; it’s good to start the studies and then figure out which pace suits you best. We have several exam sessions per year, so you can complete the studies in, for example, 1.5 years.

Will I be informed about the expected duration of each course so I can adjust my study pace? How are the exams conducted: On-site or digitally?

The online school is divided into weeks so that you can keep track of how much time you should spend on each subtask to complete it in 1 year. Exams are taken digitally and divided into 2 parts.

I assume there are recorded lectures and self-study. Is there an opportunity to ask teachers about certain topics if there are things I don’t understand?

There are both prerecorded lectures and live lectures via Teams; these are of course also recorded and made available afterward. We have scheduled meetings via Teams where students have the chance to ask questions to veterinarians. We educators are also available via phone, email, and Teams if any questions arise.

Is all study material included in the price? Is the study material only digital?

All necessary study material is available in the online school. There are books that may be useful to have, but they are absolutely not required.

Is there practical training during the education? How many weeks? Do you find these places yourself?

There is 40 days of practical training (recommended but not required). These can be divided, but we recommend studying for at least 3-4 months first. We provide a letter for the internship, but the student must find a place themselves, preferably near where they live.

Where are the physical meetings?

For level 2 animal caretakers, there is one meeting held each year in early November in Gothenburg. This is to conduct D9, which is the basic course in medicine.

After completing the education and working for 3 years, we see that one can further educate oneself to level 3. Will one become a certified animal caretaker then, or is it only SLU that grants this?

It’s true that you should be able to further educate yourself to level 3, but unfortunately, we don’t offer that. I recommend checking with SLU or the Swedish Board of Agriculture regarding this.

What does the job market look like for your graduates? Is it easy to find a job? Do you have an idea of the salary level?

Many of our students are now employed; they work in everything from veterinary clinics to zoos. Many students have also been able to continue at the same place where they did their internship. The salary varies widely depending on where you work.

When should one apply if they want to start in September? Are all applicants accepted, or is there a risk of not being admitted? Are there any specific subjects required to study with you?

We have a limited number of places because we want to be able to provide our students with all the support they may need. I recommend applying well in advance; you can also specify in the application that you wish to start in September. We require that you have completed high school, so if you have studied the social sciences program, you are eligible.

Regarding CSN and the additional course, we add that to your application, so you can receive financial aid for the entire duration.

Are lectures recorded so I can watch them later?

Yes, all lectures are recorded and made

 available afterward.
